Differential Side Retainer Oil Seal: Replacement

  1. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
  2. Remove the front tires.
  3. Lift up the vehicle.
  4. Remove the front exhaust pipe and center exhaust pipe. Refer to EXHAUST (STI)>FRONT EXHAUST PIPE>REMOVAL .
  5. Drain transmission gear oil completely. Refer to MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND DIFFERENTIAL (6MT) (TY85)>TRANSMISSION GEAR OIL>REPLACEMENT .
  6. Separate the front drive shaft from the transmission. Refer to DRIVE SHAFT SYSTEM>FRONT DRIVE SHAFT>REMOVAL .
  7. Remove the differential side retainer oil seal by using a flat tip screwdriver or similar tools.
  8. Using the ST, install the differential side retainer oil seal by lightly tapping with a hammer.

  9. Apply transmission gear oil to the oil seal lips.
  10. Set the ST to the differential side retainer.

  11. Install the front drive shaft into the transmission.
    NOTE: Replace the circlip of drive shaft with a new part.
  12. Install the front drive shaft into transmission, remove the ST and insert the drive shaft securely.

  13. Install the front exhaust pipe and the center exhaust pipe. Refer to EXHAUST (STI)>FRONT EXHAUST PIPE>INSTALLATION .
  14. Pour transmission gear oil to the bottom end of filler plug. Refer to MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND DIFFERENTIAL (6MT) (TY85)>TRANSMISSION GEAR OIL>REPLACEMENT .
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Install the front tires.
  17. Connect the battery ground terminal.
