Filling Of Engine Coolant
- Pay close attention to the procedures, because some of the air bleeding procedures differ between when performing a normal engine coolant replacement and when draining the engine coolant from the rear heater system.
- During work, set the select lever to "P" or "N" range and do not shift the lever.
- If the engine coolant splashes, completely remove and clean it.
Engine coolant:
Refer to "RECOMMENDED MATERIALS" for engine coolant. Ref. to RECOMMENDED MATERIALS>GREASE>ENGINE COOLANT .
Engine coolant concentration:
Refer to "ADJUSTMENT" for the recommended engine coolant concentration. Ref. to COOLING (H4DOTC)>ENGINE COOLANT>ADJUSTMENT .
Engine coolant level:
Refer to "SPECIFICATION" for engine coolant level. Ref. to COOLING (H4DOTC)>GENERAL DESCRIPTION>SPECIFICATION .
Cooling system protective agent:
Refer to "RECOMMENDED MATERIALS" for cooling system protective agent. Ref. to RECOMMENDED MATERIALS>GREASE>ENGINE COOLANT .
- Remove the air bleeding cap of the front hose heater outer front.
- Pour cooling system conditioner through the filler neck of radiator.
- Pour engine coolant through the filler neck of radiator. When the engine coolant comes out of the air bleeding plug on the front hose heater outer front, install the air bleeding cap.
- Pour engine coolant into the radiator up to the filler neck position.
- Fill engine coolant into the reservoir tank up to "FULL" level.
- Install the reservoir tank cap.
- Install the radiator cap.
- Start the engine, and race 5 to 6 times at 3, 000 r/min or less, then stop the engine.NOTE: Complete this operation within 40 seconds.
- After stopping the engine, wait for at least 1 minute and then remove the radiator cap. If the engine coolant level drops, add engine coolant into radiator up to the filler neck position.
- Perform the procedures 7, 8 and 9 again.
- Install the radiator cap.
- Start the engine and operate the A/C at maximum hot position, with the blower speed setting at "LO", and the A/C switch at "OFF".
- Run the engine at 3, 000 r/min or less until the radiator fan starts and then stops.CAUTION: Frequently check the engine coolant temperature in order to avoid overheat.
- Stop the engine and wait until the engine coolant temperature lowers to 30°C (86°F) or less.
- Remove the radiator cap. If the engine coolant level drops, add engine coolant into the radiator up to the filler neck position and the reservoir tank to "FULL" level.
- Attach the radiator cap and reservoir tank cap properly.
- Keep the A/C setting to maximum hot position, the blower speed setting to "LO", and the A/C switch to "OFF", and start the engine. Perform racing at 3, 000 r/min or less.
If the flowing sound is heard from the heater core (front), repeat the procedures from step 13.
- When draining the engine coolant from the rear heater system, perform the following procedures also.
- Block the front hose heater inner front (A) using hose clamps etc.
- Start the engine, and race 5 to 6 times at 3, 000 r/min or less, then stop the engine.
- Stop the engine and wait until the engine coolant temperature lowers to 30°C (86°F) or less.
- Remove the radiator cap and the air bleeding cap.
- Pour engine coolant through the filler neck of radiator. When the engine coolant comes out of the air bleeding plug on the front hose heater outer front, install the air bleeding cap.
- Pour engine coolant into the radiator up to the filler neck position.
- Install the radiator cap.
- Start the engine and operate the rear A/C at maximum hot position, with the blower speed setting at "LO", and the A/C switch at "OFF".
- Run the engine at 3, 000 r/min or less until the radiator fan starts and then stops.CAUTION: Frequently check the engine coolant temperature in order to avoid overheat.
- Check that the air temperature from the rear A/C is kept constant.
If the temperature is unstable, stop the engine and wait until the engine coolant temperature lowers to 30°C (86°F) or less. Then perform the procedures from step 6 again.
- Keep the rear A/C setting to maximum hot position, the blower speed setting to "LO", and the A/C switch to "OFF", and start the engine. Perform racing at 3, 000 r/min or less.
If the flowing sound is heard from the heater core (rear), repeat the procedures from step 9.
- Remove the hose clamps etc. from the front hose heater inner front.
- Block the front hose heater inner front (A) using hose clamps etc.
