Step Check Yes No
1 CHECK POWER SUPPLY TO EGR CONTROL VALVE.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  2. Disconnect the connector from the EGR control valve.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  4. Measure the voltage between EGR control valve connector and engine ground.

Connector & terminal
(E18) No. 2 (+) - Engine ground (-):
(E18) No. 5 (+) - Engine ground (-):
Is the voltage 10 V or more? Go to step Repair the harness and connector.
NOTE: In this case, repair the following item:
  • Open circuit in harness between EGR control valve and main relay connector
  • Poor contact of coupling connector
2 CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN ECM AND EGR CONTROL VALVE CONNECTOR.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  2. Disconnect the connector from ECM.
  3. Measure the resistance between ECM connector and EGR control valve connector.

DTC P1498; (E158) No. 49 - Chassis ground:
Is the resistance 1 MΩ or more? Go to step Repair ground short circuit of harness between ECM connector and EGR control valve connector.
4 CHECK FOR POOR CONTACT.
Check for poor contact between ECM connector and EGR control valve connector.
Is there poor contact in ECM or EGR control valve connector? Repair the poor contact of ECM or EGR control valve connector. Replace EGR control valve. Ref. to EGR CONTROL VALVE
