Stop Light Switch: Installation

  1. Installation of the stop light switch assembly
    1. Prepare a spacer.
    2. Align the groove of the stop light switch assembly mounting adjuster and the cutout portion of the push rod for stop light switch.

    3. Set the spacer between the stopper part and stop light switch while holding the brake pedal towards you.
    4. Insert the stop light switch, and turn it clockwise by 45° to secure it.
      CAUTION:
      • When disassembling or assembling the break pedal, be sure to install the stop light switch assembly last.
      • When pressing the stop light switch to the spacer, do not push it too hard.
      • The stop light switch should be tightened to the specified torque or less.

      Standard value: T=3.0 N.m {30 kgf.cm} {2.2 ft.lbf} 

    5. Remove the spacer.
    6. Pull the brake pedal toward you to check for play.

      Standard value: 0.5 - 2 mm {0.020 - 0.079 in}

    7. Connect the connector for stop light switch
    8. Connect the battery ground terminal.
    9. Check that brake lights turn on.
      NOTE: Check that the stop light turns on after depressing the brake pedal by 5 mm (0.2 in) or more.
  2. Operation check for the stop light switch assembly
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF and connect the SSM3 to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON, follow the screen display of the SSM3, and display the data for [Stop Lamp Switch] and [Master cylinder pressure].
    3. Without depressing the brake pedal, check that the stop light switch is OFF.
    4. Slowly depress the brake pedal, measure the master cylinder pressure when the stop light switch changes from OFF to ON, and check that it is within the standard values.

      Standard value: Less than 0.27 MPa
