Radiator Fan System: Inspection
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
Operating condition:
Radiator fan operates depending on the radiator fan speed related to engine coolant temperature or the radiator fan speed related to A/C compressor load, whichever is higher as a load condition.
- Radiator fan speed related to engine coolant temperature
- Radiator fan speed related to A/C compressor load
DIAGNOSIS:
Radiator main and sub fans do not rotate under the above conditions.
DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
| Step | Check | Yes | No |
|---|---|---|---|
1 CHECK MAIN FAN RELAY.
|
Is the resistance 1 MΩ or more? | Go to step 2 . | Replace the main fan relay. |
2 CHECK MAIN FAN RELAY.
|
Is the resistance less than 1 Ω? | Go to step 3 . | Replace the main fan relay. |
3 CHECK POWER SUPPLY FOR ECM.
|
Is the voltage 10 V or more? | Go to step 4 . | Repair the power supply line. |
4 CHECK POWER SUPPLY FOR RADIATOR FAN CONTROL UNIT.
|
Is the voltage 10 V or more? | Go to step 5 . | Repair the power supply line. |
5 CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN ECM AND RADIATOR FAN CONTROL UNIT.
|
Is the resistance less than 1 Ω? | Go to step 6 . | Repair the open circuit of harness between ECM and radiator fan control unit. |
6 CHECK RADIATOR FAN CONTROL UNIT AND GROUND CIRCUIT.
|
Is the resistance less than 5 Ω? | Go to step 7 . | Repair the open circuit of harness between radiator fan control unit connector and chassis ground. |
7 CHECK MAIN FAN MOTOR.
|
Does the main fan motor rotate? | Go to step 8 . | Replace the main fan motor. |
8 CHECK SUB FAN MOTOR.
|
Does the sub fan motor rotate? | Go to step 9 . | Replace the sub fan motor. |
9 CHECK OUTPUT SIGNAL FROM ECM.
|
Is waveform being output? | Replace the radiator fan control unit. Ref. to RADIATOR FAN CONTROL UNIT . | Replace the ECM. Ref. to ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) . |
