Front Axle Shafts: Installation
NOTE:
Be sure to replace the oil seal with a new one when removing axle shaft.
- Using the differential side oil seal installer, replace the differential side retainer oil seal with a new one. See Fig 1.
- Insert the front axle shaft into front axle.
- Temporarily tighten the axle nut.
- Install the front axle shaft to transmission using oil seal protector. See Fig 2.
- Install the ball joint to front axle.
- Install the stabilizer link. See Figure.CAUTION: When connecting, DO NOT hit the cap at bottom of tie-rod with hammer.
- Install the tie-rod end.
- Tighten the castle nut to specification and tighten further within 60° until pin hole is aligned with the slot in nut. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . See Fig 3. Bend the cotter pin to lock.
- Make sure to recognize the position of AARi retainer. See Fig 4.
- Using the axle shaft installer and adapter, pull the front axle shaft into place. See Fig 5.
- Tighten a new axle nut to specification with brake pedal depressed. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Lock the axle nut. See Fig 6.
- Install the ABS sensor bracket.
- Add the transmission oil. See appropriate SERVICING article in TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION.
- Install the wheel.
