Rear Disc Brake Rotor: Inspection

  1. Set dial gauge on disc rotor. See Fig 1 . Turn disc rotor to check runout. See DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS  .
    NOTE: Securely adjust the disc rotor to hub. Make sure dial gauge is set to 0.39" (10 mm) inward of rotor outer perimeter.
  2. If runout of disc exceeds the limit, check for abnormal free play at the hub bearing and runout in the thrust direction. See INSPECTION under REAR AXLE in appropriate REAR AXLE SHAFTS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.
  3. Measure disc rotor thickness. See Figure . See DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS  .
    NOTE: Make sure dial gauge is set to 0.2" (5 mm) inward of rotor outer perimeter.
