Diagnostic Procedure
- Check if vehicle is equipped with A/T. If vehicle is equipped with A/T, go to next step. If vehicle is not equipped with A/T, go to step 3.
- Perform basic diagnostic procedure. See BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . If DTC P0720 exists, check front speed sensor circuit. See appropriate AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS article. If DTC P0720 is not set, go to next step.
- Check speedometer for proper operation. If speedometer operates properly, go to next step. If speedometer does not operate properly, check front vehicle speed sensor and speedometer. See appropriate article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
- Turn ignition switch to off position. Disconnect instrument cluster 10-pin harness connector (30-pin on Forester). Measure resistance between ECM harness 28-pin connector B135, terminal No. 24 and instrument cluster 10-pin harness connector, terminal No. 2 (terminals No. 10 and No. 2 on Forester). See Figure and 4 or Figure . If resistance is less than 10 ohms, repair poor contact in ECM harness connector. If resistance is greater than 10 ohms, repair open between ECM harness connector and instrument cluster harness connector.
