Rear Disc Brake Rotor: Inspection

  1. Set dial gauge on disc rotor. See Fig 1 . Turn disc rotor to check runout. See SERVICE SPECIFICATIONS under DISC BRAKES in SPECIFICATIONS INDEX article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
    NOTE: Securely adjust the disc rotor to hub. Make sure dial gauge is set to 0.2" (5 mm) inward of rotor outer perimeter.
  2. If runout of disc exceeds the limit, check for abnormal free play at the hub bearing and runout in the thrust direction. See INSPECTION under REAR AXLE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate REAR AXLE SHAFTS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.
  3. Measure disc rotor thickness. See Figure . See SERVICE SPECIFICATIONS under DISC BRAKES in SPECIFICATIONS INDEX article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
    NOTE: Make sure dial gauge is set to 0.2" (5 mm) inward of rotor outer perimeter.
