VDC (Vehicle Dynamics Control) Warning Light (If Equipped)
NOTE:
The VDC system provides its anti-lock brake control through the ABS system. If the ABS is inoperative, the VDC system becomes inoperative and, as a result, the VDC warning light will activate. Although both the VDC and ABS systems are inoperative in this situation, ordinary braking functions are still available and driveability is safe. See Figure
for lamp location.
NORMAL - This VDC warning light glows when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position then turns off after the engine has started. This indicates that the VDC system is operational. Consider the system normal if the warning light functions as follows:
- Turns on right after the engine is started but goes out immediately and remains off
- Remains on after the engine has been started but goes out when the vehicle speed reaches about 8 mph (12 km/h)
- Turns on while driving then goes out immediately and remains off
ABNORMAL - The VDC system is probably inoperative if the warning light does any of the following:
- Remains unlit when ignition switch is turned to the ON position.
- Remains on after the engine has started and stays on even when the vehicle speed reaches about 8 mph (12 km/h).
- Comes on while vehicle is running.
- Comes on when system's electrical circuit becomes faulty; however, ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) will remain fully operational.
- Comes on when the electronic control system of the ABS/VDC system becomes faulty.
