Fuel Gauge
This gauge monitors the approximate amount of fuel remaining in the tank and indicates the tank's fuel level even when the ignition switch is in the ACC or LOCK positions; the gauge will not return to "E". The gauge, however, may move slightly during braking, turning, or accelerating due to fuel movement in the tank. The unit consists of a float and a potentiometer whose resistance varies as the float moves. The fuel gauge is located inside the fuel tank and forms an integral part of the fuel pump. All models are equipped with 2 fuel level sensors. See Fig 1 . Each sensor is installed inside the fuel tank on each side (right and left). The 2 sensors are necessary because the fuel tank is divided into main and sub tank compartments.
Operation - The combination meter CPU continually monitors the resistance signal from the fuel level sensor. It activates the Low Fuel Warning Light in the combination meter if a resistance value corresponding to the critical fuel level (about 76 ohms) is detected for about 10 successive minutes or 10 successive kilometers. See Fig 2 . The monitoring time helps avoid false operation of the warning light; false operation could occur if much of the remaining fuel is collected temporarily in the sub tank compartment.
