DTC P1101: Neutral Position Switch Circuit High Input (A/T) - Forester, IMPREZA & Outback Sport
- Perform basic diagnostic procedure. See BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . If DTC P0705 exists, diagnose and repair that DTC first. If DTC P0705 does not exist, go to next step.
- Using DVOM connected to ground, backprobe ECM connector B135 (28-pin connector) terminal No. 26 with A/T selector lever in Neutral and Park. See Figure. If voltage is less than one volt, go to next step. If voltage is not less than one volt, go to step 5.
- Place A/T selector lever in any gear other than Neutral or Park. Using DVOM connected to ground, backprobe ECM connector B135 (28-pin connector) terminal No. 26. If voltage is between 4.5 and 5.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not between 4.5 and 5.5 volts, go to step 5.
- Check for poor contact in ECM connector B135 (28-pin connector). Repair as necessary. If connector is okay, contact authorized Subaru dealership because probable cause is deterioration of multiple parts.
- Using DVOM connected to ground, backprobe ECM connector B135 (28-pin connector) terminal No. 26. If voltage is more than 10 volts, locate and repair short to voltage in wiring between ECM and inhibitor switch connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If voltage is not more than 10 volts, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM connector B135 (28-pin connector) and 12-pin inhibitor switch connector. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between ECM connector B135 (28-pin connector) terminal No. 26 and 12-pin inhibitor switch connector terminal No. 12. See Figure and Fig 1
. If resistance is less than one ohm, go to next step. If resistance is not less than one ohm, locate and repair open circuit in wiring and check for poor terminal contact in connectors between ECM and inhibitor switch.

- Using an ohmmeter connected to ground, measure resistance of 12-pin inhibitor switch connector terminal No. 7. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, locate and repair open circuit in wiring and check for poor terminal contact in connectors between ECM, inhibitor switch and starter motor.
- Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between 12-pin inhibitor switch terminals No. 7 and No. 12 with A/T selector lever in Neutral and Park. See Fig 2. If resistance is less than one ohm, go to next step. If resistance is not less than one ohm, replace inhibitor switch.
- Check for fault in A/T selector cable connection to inhibitor switch. Repair as necessary. If no faults are found, contact authorized Subaru dealership because probable cause is deterioration of multiple parts. Clear memory and perform verification procedure.
