DTC P0506: Idle Control System Rpm Lower Than Expected - Forester, IMPREZA 2.5L & Legacy & Outback 2.5L A/T

  1. Perform basic diagnostic procedure. See BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . If DTC P1510, P1511, P1512, P1513, P1514, P1515, P1516 or P1517 exist, diagnose and repair those DTCs. Do not diagnose DTC P0506. If DTC P0506 is only DTC set, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Remove IAC solenoid valve from throttle body. Remove throttle body from intake manifold. Using an air gun, force air into IAC solenoid valve installation area. Ensure air escapes from interior of throttle body. If air escapes from interior of throttle body, replace IAC solenoid valve. If air does not escape from interior of throttle body, replace throttle body. Clear memory and perform verification procedure. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  and VERIFICATION PROCEDURE  .
