DTC P0117: Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Circuit Low Input - Legacy & Outback 2.5L A/T

  1. Perform basic diagnostic procedure. See BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . Start engine. Using scan tool, observe coolant temperature value. If temperature is more than 302°F (150°C), go to next step. If temperature is not more than 302°F (150°C), check for poor terminal contact in connectors between ECM and ECT sensor.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECT sensor connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, observe coolant temperature. If temperature is less than -40°F (-40°C), replace ECT sensor. If temperature is not less than -40°F (-40°C), locate and repair short to ground in wiring between ECT sensor and ECM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Clear memory and perform verification procedure.
