DTC P1510, P1512, P1514 & P1516: Idle Air Control (IAC) Solenoid Valve Signal No. 1-4 Circuits Low Input - Forester, IMPREZA 2.5L & Legacy & Outback 2.5L A/T

  1. Perform basic diagnostic procedure. See BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . Turn ignition off. Disconnect IAC solenoid valve connector. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM connected to ground, measure voltage at IAC solenoid valve connector terminals No. 2 and No. 5. See Figure. If voltage is more than 10 volts at each terminal, go to next step. If voltage is not more than 10 volts at each terminal, locate and repair open in wiring and check for poor terminal contact in connectors between main relay and IAC solenoid valve. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  2. Turn ignition off. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between specified ECM and IAC 6-pin connector terminals for related DTC. See Figure and Figure . See IAC SOLENOID VALVE RESISTANCE - FORESTER, IMPREZA 2.5L & LEGACY & OUTBACK 2.5L A/T  table. If resistance is less than one ohm on all circuits, go to next step. If resistance is not less than one ohm on any circuit, locate and repair open circuit in wiring and check for poor terminal contact in connectors between ECM and IAC solenoid valve.

  3. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect ECM connector B134 (35-pin connector). Measure resistance between ECM connector B134 (35-pin connector) terminals No. 5, 6, 19 and 20 and chassis ground for applicable DTC. See IAC SOLENOID VALVE RESISTANCE - FORESTER, IMPREZA 2.5L & LEGACY & OUTBACK 2.5L A/T . If resistance is less than 10 ohms on any circuit, locate and repair short to ground in wiring between ECM and IAC solenoid valve. If resistance is not less than 10 ohms on all circuits, go to next step.
  4. Check for poor contact at ECM and IAC solenoid valve connectors. Repair connectors as necessary. If connectors are okay, replace IAC solenoid valve. Clear memory and perform verification procedure. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  and VERIFICATION PROCEDURE  .
