Removal & Installation: Camshafts: Installation

  1. Apply engine oil to camshaft journals and install camshaft. Apply a continuous bead of Three Bond (1280B) to camshaft support sealing surface. Apply a bead of silicone sealant along edge of camshaft cap mating surface. Install camshaft support cap. Install and temporarily tighten camshaft support bolt Nos. 7-10 in order. See Figure. Apply engine oil to camshaft lobes. Install rocker arm assembly and retaining bolts on camshaft support.
  2. Tighten rocker shaft bolt Nos. 1-8 to 18 ft. lbs. (24 N.m), in order. See Figure. Using a Torx socket, install and tighten camshaft support bolt Nos. 11-16 to 13 ft. lbs. (18 N.m), in order. See Figure. Tighten camshaft support bolt Nos. 3-10 to 89 INCH lbs. (10 N.m), in order. Tighten camshaft support bolt Nos. 1 and 2 to 89 INCH lbs. (10 N.m).
  3. Apply grease to lip of NEW camshaft oil seal, and install using Camshaft Oil Seal Guide (499597000) and Camshaft Oil Seal Installer (499587500). Using Oil Seal Installer (499587700), install camshaft plug. Adjust valves. See VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT  under ADJUSTMENTS. Using a NEW gasket, install valve cover. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
