Cylinder Head: Removal
- Remove timing belt. See TIMING BELT . Remove intake manifold. See INTAKE MANIFOLD . Remove crankshaft pulley. Remove camshafts. See CAMSHAFTS .
- Remove A/C compressor bracket-to-cylinder head bolt. Disconnect all electrical connectors, fuel lines and vacuum hoses interfering with cylinder head removal. Remove valve covers.
- Loosen and remove cylinder head bolts in sequence. See Fig 1. Using a plastic mallet, tap cylinder head to separate it from cylinder block. Remove bolts No. 1 and 3 and remove cylinder head. Remove and discard cylinder head gasket.CAUTION: Leave cylinder head bolts No. 1 and 3 engaged by 3 or 4 threads to prevent cylinder head from falling.
