Disabling Air Bag System (Land Cruiser, RAV-4, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra & 4Runner)
WARNING:
Some vehicles are equipped with a passenger-side air bag ON/OFF switch. This switch should NOT be used in place of specified vehicle air bag system disabling and activating procedures.
- Obtain radio anti-theft protection code from owner prior to servicing vehicle or deactivate radio anti-theft function before disconnecting vehicle battery.
- Place front wheels in straight-ahead position. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect and shield negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 SECONDS before working on vehicle.
- Remove steering column lower cover. Disconnect driver air bag module Yellow 2-pin connector. Air bag connector terminals are automatically shorted together. See Figure.
- Unplug passenger air bag module Yellow 2-pin connector. On RAV4 and 4Runner, remove glove box. Connector is in glove box opening. See Figure or Figure . On Land Cruiser, Sienna, and Tacoma, connector is attached to a finish plate inside glove box. See Figure, Figure or Figure . On Tundra, passenger air bag connector is above top center edge of glove box opening. Air bag connector terminals are automatically shorted together.
- Unplug left and right seat belt pretensioner 2-pin connectors. To access pretensioner connectors, perform the following:
- Land Cruiser & 4Runner
Remove front and rear door scuff plates. On Land Cruiser, remove front and rear door opening trim. On both models, remove center pillar lower trim plate. - Sienna
Remove front and rear door scuff plates. Remove center pillar lower trim panels. - RAV-4
Remove rear seat cushion, front and rear door scuff plates, and rear quarter trim panels. Remove roof side inner garnish. - Tacoma
On regular cab models, remove front seat belt out belt floor and shoulder anchors. Remove the seat belt lower retractor cover. On extra cab models, remove the door scuff plate, back panel upper garnish, back panel trim, rear seat cushion, lock handle, and seat belt floor and shoulder anchors. Remove rear quarter trim panel. - Tundra
On standard cab models, remove the front door scuff plate, front pillar garnish, back panel upper garnish, front seat outer belt floor anchor, and rear quarter trim panel. On extended cab models, remove front and rear door scuff plates, front seat outer belt floor anchor, front seat outer belt shoulder belt, roof side rail garnish, and front door rear scuff plate and cover.
