Removal & Installation: Camshafts: Installation

  1. To install camshaft, apply engine oil to camshaft journals and install camshaft. Apply a 0.12" (3 mm) bead of Three Bond (1280B) to edge of camshaft support sealing surfaces. Temporarily tighten camshaft support bolts No. 7-10 in order. See Figure. Apply engine oil to camshaft lobes. Position rocker arm assembly and bolts on camshaft support.
  2. Tighten rocker shaft bolts No. 1-8 in order to 17-20 ft. lbs. (23-27 N.m). See Figure. Using Torx Plus (ST 499497000), install and tighten camshaft support bolts No. 11-16 in order to 12-15 ft. lbs. (16-20 N.m). See Figure. Tighten camshaft support bolts No. 3-10 in order to 71-106 INCH lbs. (8-12 N.m). Tighten camshaft support bolts No. 1, and then No. 2 to 71-106 INCH lbs. (8-12 N.m).
  3. Apply grease to lip of NEW camshaft oil seal, and install using Camshaft Oil Seal Guide (ST1 499597000) and Camshaft Oil Seal Installer (ST 499587500). Using Oil Seal Installer (ST 499587700), install camshaft plug. Install oil level gauge guide and camshaft position sensor support. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure.
