Mil Does Not Blink At A Cycle Of 3 HZ

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect test mode connector under instrument panel. Turn ignition on without starting engine. If MIL light illuminates, go to next step. If MIL light does not illuminate, repair MIL circuit. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM connector B134 (35-pin connector). Turn ignition on. If MIL light illuminates, repair short in circuit between ECM and instrument cluster. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If MIL light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM connector B135 (28-pin connector). Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between test mode connector terminal No. 1 and ground. See Fig 1. If resistance is less than one ohm, go to next step. If resistance is not less than ohm, repair open circuit between test mode connector and ground. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article.

  4. Check ECM connectors for proper contact and repair as required. If connectors are okay, go to next step.
  5. Ensure all connectors are attached at ECM and instrument cluster. Connect test mode connector under instrument panel. Using an ohmmeter connected to ground, backprobe ECM connector B135 (28-pin connector) terminal No. 14. See Figure. If resistance is less than one ohm, repair poor contact in ECM connector. If connector is okay, replace ECM. If resistance is not less than one ohm, repair open in circuit between ECM and test mode connector. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
