DTC P0201 (INJ1), DTC P0202 (INJ2), DTC P0203 (INJ3), DTC P0204 (INJ4), DTC P0205 (INJ5), DTC P0206 (INJ6): Fuel Injector Circuit Malfunction

  1. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM connected to chassis ground, backprobe ECM connector terminals No. 96 (cyl. No. 1), No. 70 (cyl. No, 2), No. 44 (cyl. No. 3), No. 16 (cyl. No. 4), No. 43 (cyl. No. 5) and No. 15 (cyl. No. 6). See INJECTOR-TO-ECM TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION  table. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If voltage is 10 volts or more on any of the injector circuits, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts on any of the injector circuits, go to step 4).
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect affected fuel injector connector. Turn ignition on. Backprobe ECM connector terminal to affected/faulty injector(s). If voltage is 10 volt or more, check for short in circuit between ECM and affected fuel injector. If circuit is okay, replace ECM. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Check resistance between affected injector terminals No. 1 and 2. If resistance is less than one ohm, replace fuel injector. If resistance is one ohm or more, check for poor terminal contact on ECM connector. If terminal contact is okay, replace ECM.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect connector from affected fuel injector. Check resistance between chassis ground and affected injector connector terminal No. 1. If resistance is 10 ohms or less, check for short to ground in wiring between affected injector and ECM connector. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, go to next step.
  5. Disconnect ECM connector. Check resistance between affected injector(s) connector terminal No. 1 and respective ECM connector terminal. See INJECTOR-TO-ECM TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION  table. If resistance is less than one ohm, go to next step. If resistance is one ohm or more, check for open in wiring between ECM and affected fuel injector(s) connector. Check for poor terminal in coupling connector.
  6. Check resistance between affected injector(s) terminals No. 1 and 2. Resistance should be 5-20 ohms. If resistance is not as specified, replace affected injector(s). If resistance is as specified, go to next step.
  7. Reconnect ECM connector. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between chassis ground and affected injector(s) terminal No. 2. Voltage reading should be more than 10 volts. If voltage reading is as specified, check for poor terminal contact to affected injector. If voltage reading is not as specified, go to next step.
  8. Check for open in circuit between main relay and affected injector(s). Check for poor terminal contact at coupling connectors, main relay connector and injector connector. If circuits and connectors are okay, check for mechanical problem in affected cylinder(s).
