1997-98 Impreza, 1997-98 Legacy & 1998 Forester

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect connector from transmission. Measure resistance between transmission connector receptacle and ground. Resistance between transmission connector receptacle terminal No. 4 and ground should be more than 100 k/ohms.
  2. Measure resistance between transmission connector receptacle and ground. Resistance between transmission connector receptacle terminal No. 4 and ground should be more than 100 k/ohms. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, go to step  10.
  3. Measure resistance between transmission connector and TCM connector B55. Resistance between transmission connector terminal No. 11 and connector B55 terminal No. 3 should be 0-1 ohm. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, repair open in harness between TCM and transmission connector.
  4. Measure resistance between transmission connector and TCM connector B55. Resistance between transmission connector terminal No. 4 and connector B55 terminal No. 10 should be 0-1 ohm. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, repair open in harness between TCM and transmission connector.
  5. Measure resistance between TCM connector B55 and ground. Resistance between connector B55 terminal No. 3 and ground should be more than 100 k/ohms. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, repair short to ground in harness between TCM and transmission connector.
  6. Measure resistance between TCM connector B55 and ground. Resistance between connector B55 terminal No. 10 and ground should be more than 100 k/ohms. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, repair short to ground in harness between TCM and transmission connector.
  7. Connect connectors to TCM and transmission. With KOEO, ensure throttle is fully closed. Backprobe and measure voltage between TCM connector B55 terminals. Voltage between connector B55 terminals No. 3 and No. 10 should be less than one volt in "P" range. If voltage is okay, go to next step. If voltage is not within specification, go to step  9.
  8. Backprobe and measure voltage between TCM connector B55 terminals. Voltage between connector B55 terminals No. 3 and No. 10 should be 5-7 volts in "D" range. If voltage is okay and AT OIL TEMP light illuminates, concern is intermittent and circuit has returned to normal condition. A temporary poor contact of connector or harness may be cause. Repair harness to, or connector in duty solenoid "C" or TCM. If voltage is not within specification, go to next step.
  9. Check for poor contact in duty solenoid "C" circuit. If poor contact is found, repair as necessary. If contact is okay, replace TCM and retest.
  10. Raise vehicle and secure with safety stand. Drain transmission fluid when cool. Remove extension case and disconnect connector from duty solenoid "C". Measure resistance between duty solenoid "C" connector and ground. Resistance between duty solenoid "C" terminal No. 1 and ground should be 9-17 ohms. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, replace duty solenoid "C".
  11. Measure resistance between duty solenoid "C" connector and transmission connector receptacle. Resistance between duty solenoid "C" terminal No. 1 and transmission connector receptacle terminal No. 11 should be 0-1 ohm. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, repair open in internal transmission harness between duty solenoid "C" and transmission connector receptacle.
  12. Measure resistance between transmission connector receptacle and ground. Resistance between transmission connector receptacle terminal No. 11 and ground should be more than 100 k/ohms. If resistance is okay and AT OIL TEMP light illuminates, concern is intermittent and circuit has returned to normal condition. A temporary poor contact of connector or harness may be cause. Repair harness to, or connector in duty solenoid "C" or transmission connector receptacle. If resistance is not within specification, repair short to ground in internal transmission harness between duty solenoid "C" and receptacle.
