1997 SVX

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect connector from TCM and connector from transmission. Measure resistance between TCM connector B68 and transmission connector. See Figure and Figure . Resistance between connector B68 terminal No. 15 and transmission connector terminal No. 1 should be 0-1 ohm. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, repair open in harness between TCM and transmission connector.
  2. Measure resistance between TCM connector B68 and transmission connector. Resistance between connector B68 terminal No. 10 and transmission connector terminal No. 4 should be 0-1 ohm. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, repair open in harness between TCM and transmission connector.
  3. Measure resistance between TCM connector and ground. Resistance between connector B68 terminal No. 10 and ground should be more than 100 k/ohms. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, repair short to ground in harness between TCM and transmission.
  4. Measure resistance between TCM connector and ground. Resistance between connector B68 terminal No. 15 and ground should be more than 100 k/ohms. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, repair short to ground in harness between TCM and transmission.
  5. With transmission disconnected, measure resistance between transmission connector receptacle and ground. Resistance between terminal No. 4 of connector receptacle and ground should be 0-1 ohm. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, repair open in internal transmission harness between receptacle and shift solenoid No. 3.
  6. Measure resistance between transmission connector receptacle terminals. See Figure. Resistance between terminal No. 1 and No. 4 of connector should be 20-30 ohms. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, replace shift solenoid No. 3.
  7. Measure signal voltage output from TCM. Raise vehicle on hoist. Warm engine and transmission to operating temperature. Move shift selector lever to "D" position. Backprobe and measure signal voltage output from TCM connector while engine is idling. Voltage between terminal No. 15 and No. 10 of connector B68 should be 9-14 volts. If voltage is okay and AT OIL TEMP light illuminates, concern is intermittent and circuit has returned to normal condition. A temporary poor contact of connector or harness may be cause. Repair TCM harness or connector. If voltage is not within specification, go to next step.
  8. Check for poor contact in shift solenoid No. 3 circuit. If contact is poor, repair as necessary. If contact is okay, replace TCM and retest.
