- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect connector from dropping resistor. Measure resistance between resistor terminals. Resistance between resistor terminals should be 9-15 ohms. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not 9-15 ohms, replace resistor.
- Disconnect connector from TCM. Measure resistance between TCM connector B55 and dropping resistor connector. Resistance between terminal No. 7 of connector B55 and terminal No. 1 of resistor connector should be 0-1 ohm. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance measurement is not within specification, inspect and repair circuit for open.
- Measure resistance between dropping resistor connector and ground. Resistance between terminal No. 1 and No. 2 of dropping resistor connector and ground should be more than 100 k/ohms. If both resistances are okay, go to next step. If either of these resistance measurements are not within specification, inspect and repair circuit(s) for short to ground.
- Measure resistance between transmission connector and dropping resistor connector. If resistance measurement is not within specification, inspect and repair circuit for open.
- Measure resistance between transmission connector receptacle and ground. See Figure. Resistance between terminal No. 4 of transmission connector receptacle and transmission should be 0-1 ohm. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, repair open in transmission internal harness
- Check duty solenoid "A". Disconnect connector from transmission. Measure resistance between transmission connector receptacle terminals. Resistance between terminals No. 7 and No. 4 of connector should be 1.5-4.5 ohms. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, go to step 16.
- Measure resistance between TCM connector B55 and transmission connector. Resistance between terminal No. 8 of connector B55 and terminal No. 7 of transmission connector should be 0-1 ohm. See Figure. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, repair open in harness between TCM and transmission connector.
- Measure resistance between TCM connector B55 and transmission connector. Resistance between terminal No. 10 of connector B55 and terminal No. 4 of transmission connector should be 0-1 ohm. See Figure. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, repair open in harness between TCM and transmission connector.
- Measure resistance between TCM connector B55 and ground. Resistance between connector B55 terminal No. 8 and ground should be more than 100 k/ohms. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, repair short to ground in harness between TCM and transmission connector.
- Measure resistance between TCM connector B55 and ground. Resistance between connector B55 terminal No. 10 and ground should be more than 100 k/ohms. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, repair short to ground in harness between TCM and transmission connector.
- Measure signal voltage output from TCM. Warm engine and transmission. Turn ignition to ON position. DO NOT start engine. Move shift selector to "N" position. Measure voltage between TCM connector B55 terminals. Voltage between connector B55 terminal No. 8 and terminal No. 10 should 1.5-4.0 volts with throttle fully closed. If voltage is okay, go to next step. If voltage is not within specification, go to step 15.
- Measure voltage between TCM connector B55 terminals. Voltage between connector B55 terminal No. 8 and terminal No. 10 should 0-1 volt with throttle fully open. If voltage is okay, go to next step. If voltage is not within specification, go to step 15.
- Measure voltage between TCM connector B55 terminals. Voltage between terminals No. 7 and 10 on connector B55 with throttle fully closed should be more than 8.5 volts. If voltage is okay, go to next step. If voltage is not within specification, go to step 15.
- Measure voltage between TCM connector B55 terminals. Voltage between terminals No. 7 and 10 on connector B55 with throttle fully open should be 0-1 volt. If voltage is okay and AT OIL TEMP light illuminates, concern is intermittent and circuit has returned to normal condition. A temporary poor contact of connector or harness may be cause. Repair TCM harness or connector. If voltage is not within specification, go to next step.
- Check for poor contact in duty solenoid "A". If contact is okay, replace TCM and retest. If contact is poor, repair as necessary.
- Remove transmission connector from bracket and drain transmission fluid when cool. Remove oil pan and disconnect connector from duty solenoid "A". Measure resistance between duty solenoid "A" connector and ground. Resistance between duty solenoid "A" connector terminal No. 2 and ground should be 1.5-4.5 ohms. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, replace duty solenoid "A".
- Check internal transmission harness. Measure resistance between duty solenoid "A" and transmission connector receptacle. Resistance between duty solenoid "A" connector terminal No. 2 and transmission connector terminal No. 7 should be 0-1 ohm. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, repair open between duty solenoid "A" and transmission connector receptacle.
