Removal & Installation: Engine: Removal

  1. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE . Drain cooling system. Disconnect battery and remove from vehicle. Disconnect radiator and heater hoses. On A/T models, disconnect A/T cooler lines and remove coolant recovery tank. On all models, Remove radiator. Remove air intake duct/upper air cleaner cover assembly.
  2. Discharge A/C system using approved refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment. Disconnect accelerator cable, cruise control cable (if equipped) and clutch/hill holder cable (M/T) at clutch release fork. Remove accessory drive belts. Disconnect all electrical connectors interfering with engine removal.
  3. Disconnect A/C hoses, plug openings and position aside. Remove power steering pump with hoses attached and set aside. Remove center exhaust pipe and heat shield. Disconnect engine mount from front crossmember. Remove nuts attaching lower portion of engine to transaxle. Remove timing check service hole cover.
  4. Disconnect drive plate from torque converter (A/T). Remove engine torque strut. Support engine using hoist. Support transaxle using floor jack. Remove bolts attaching upper side of engine to transmission. Remove engine.
