Cylinder Head: Removal

  1. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE . Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove accessory drive belt cover and belts. Remove generator and A/C compressor with brackets. Remove hoses and coolant tubes from cylinder block.
  2. Disconnect all electrical connectors interfering with cylinder head removal. Remove intake manifold. See INTAKE MANIFOLD . Remove camshaft position sensor. Remove timing belt. See TIMING BELT . Remove valve cover and camshafts. See CAMSHAFTS .
  3. Remove engine oil dipstick tube attaching bolt (left side only). Remove cylinder head bolts in reverse order of tightening sequence. See Figure. Remove cylinder head and gasket. DO NOT drop cylinder head.
