Forester, Impreza & Legacy
- Models with A/C have 2 cooling fans. Models without A/C have one cooling fan. On all models, radiator (main) fan operates when coolant temperature is more than 203°F (95°C) and vehicle speed is less than 12 MPH.
- On Forester and Impreza with A/C, condenser (sub) fan operates under the following conditions:
- A/C is turned on and vehicle speed is less than 12 MPH.
- A/C is turned off and coolant temperature is more than 212°F (100°C).
- Power for main fan motor is supplied from main fan relay. Power for sub fan relay is supplied from sub fan relay. Relays are located in underhood fuse/relay box. Power for relays is supplied through 20-amp fuses in underhood fuse/relay box. Power for relay coils is supplied through fuses No. 17 and 18 located in passenger compartment fuse box. Ground circuits for relay coils are switched by PCM.
- Legacy with A/C is equipped with 2-speed fans. Both main fan and sub fan operate at low-speed under the following conditions:
- Coolant temperature is less than 192°F (89°C), A/C is turned on, and vehicle speed is less than 6 MPH.
- Coolant temperature is more than 203°F (95°C), A/C is turned off, and vehicle speed is less than 6 MPH.
- Power for low-speed main fan operation is supplied from MAIN FAN RELAY 1. Power for low-speed sub fan operation is supplied from SUB FAN RELAY 1.
- Both main fan and sub fan operate at high-speed under the following conditions:
- Coolant temperature is more than 203°F (95°C) and A/C is turned on.
- Coolant temperature is more than 203°F (95°C), A/C is turned off, and vehicle speed is more than 12 MPH.
- Coolant temperature is less than 192°F (89°C), A/C is turned on, and vehicle speed is more than 12 MPH.
- Power for high-speed main fan operation is supplied from MAIN FAN RELAY 2. Power for high-speed sub fan operation is supplied from SUB FAN RELAY 2.
