Description & Operation: Notes
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Subaru SVX. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) consists of an AIR BAG warning light (in instrument cluster), 2 impact sensors, 2 safety sensors (built into control unit), driver-side air bag module, passenger-side module, inflators (located in air bag modules), roll connector (clockspring), control unit, and wiring harnesses. See Fig 1 .
During a front end collision, contacts in a impact sensor and safety sensor close to complete the circuit, igniting the inflator to deploy air bags. At least 2 sensors, one safety and one impact, must activate simultaneously to inflate air bag.
