Impact Sensors

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Subaru SVX. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Each impact sensor reacts to impacts according to direction and force. They discriminate between impacts that require air bag inflation and those that do not. When an impact requiring air bag inflation occurs, an internal roller and switch complete an electrical circuit necessary for system operation. At least 2 sensors, one safety and one impact, must be closed simultaneously to inflate air bag. Front impact sensors are located inside front right and left fender wells. Safing sensors are located inside control unit.
