Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Installation
- Coat camshaft journals and case bores with oil and install camshaft. Install camshaft support and new "O" ring. Tighten bolts to specification. Position camshaft dowel pin upward toward the camshaft support retaining bolt.
- With valve lash adjusters upright, press pivot area downward to ensure no air exists in adjuster. Install valve lash adjusters in original location of cylinder head. Coat spherical surface and sliding surface of valve rocker with grease and install in original location.CAUTION: Valve lash adjusters and valve rockers must be installed in original location. On new valve lash adjusters, pin located on side of adjuster must be removed prior to installation.
- Apply a bead of Three Bond (1207B) sealant to grooves of camshaft case and install case on cylinder head. Install bolts and tighten to specification. Apply engine oil to valve rockers and camshaft.
- To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to specification. Prior to installing distributor, rotate engine to bring No. 1 cylinder at TDC of compression stroke so camshaft mark is properly positioned. See Fig 1 .
- Align marks on distributor housing with mark on distributor gear. Install distributor.
