Cylinder Block: Reassembly
- Install main bearings, crankshaft and connecting rods. Ensure all crankshaft bearings are installed in cylinder block. Install "O" ring and back-up ring on cylinder block. Ensure "O" ring properly fits in groove.
- Clean all sealing surfaces of cylinder block. Apply Three Bond (1215) to sealing surface on one side of cylinder block.CAUTION: Ensure sealant does not enter oil and coolant passages of cylinder block.
- Position cylinder block with left cylinder block downward. Install right side of cylinder block. Ensure "O" ring fits properly in groove. Temporarily install cylinder block bolts.
- Lay cylinder block down and tighten bolts to specification. With cylinders No. 3 and 4 facing downward, rotate crankshaft so No. 1 and 2 cylinder connecting rods are at BDC.
- Lubricate piston, rings and cylinder wall. Ensure piston rings are proper positioned. See Figure . Install No. 1 and 2 cylinder pistons. Using Piston Pin Guide (399284300), align connecting rod and piston pin holes.
- Install piston pin. Install piston pin retaining clips with end of clip away from piston pin.CAUTION: Piston pin retaining clips must be installed with end of clip positioned away from piston pin.
- Repeat procedure on remaining cylinders. Ensure all piston pin retaining clips are properly installed. Apply Three Bond (1205) to service hole plugs. Install plugs and tighten to specification.
- To reassemble remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to specification.
