Crankshaft & Connecting Rod: Removal

  1. Separate cylinder block. See DISASSEMBLY under CYLINDER BLOCK. Using feeler gauge, measure crankshaft end play clearance between center bearing and crankshaft.
  2. Replace bearing if clearance is not within specification. See CRANKSHAFT MAIN & CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS table Remove front and rear oil seals. Lift crankshaft and connecting rod assembly from cylinder block.
  3. Using feeler gauge, measure connecting rod side clearance. Replace connecting rod if not within specification. See CONNECTING RODS table
  4. Note direction and location of connecting rod installation. Remove connecting rod cap and bearing. Remove connecting rod.
