- Remove intake manifold and cylinder head. See INTAKE MANIFOLD and CYLINDER HEAD under ENGINE, MANIFOLDS & CYLINDER HEADS. Remove water pump, oil pump and oil pan. Remove oil separator cover. Remove 14 mm Allen head service hole plugs from crankcase.
- Using crankshaft pulley retaining bolt, rotate crankshaft and position No. 1 and 2 pistons at BDC. Access to piston pins No. 1 and 2 is through front service hole plugs while No. 3 and 4 are through rear service hole plugs. From service hole plug access, remove piston pin retaining clip from the pistons. Note direction of retaining clip installation.

Remove back-up ring and "O" ring from cylinder block.CAUTION: DO NOT allow connecting rods to fall and damage cylinder block while separating cylinder block.
- Remove crankshaft and connecting rods. See CRANKSHAFT & CONNECTING ROD under CRANKSHAFT & ROD BEARINGS. Remove pistons. See PISTON & ROD ASSEMBLY.
