Removal & Installation: Engine: Removal

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable at battery and engine. Remove spare tire and support from engine compartment. Remove fuel canister and evaporation hoses. Pull up windshield washer reservoir and set behind strut.
  2. Remove air cleaner. Remove all vacuum lines and label. Disconnect all electrical wiring and label. Disconnect accelerator and clutch cables. Remove power steering pump (if equipped). Remove oil pump and bracket assembly. Remove alternator and belt. Disconnect O2 sensor.
  3. Remove bolts retaining transaxle-to-engine. DO NOT  remove starter. Drain coolant. Disconnect upper and lower radiator hoses. Remove ground wire. Remove radiator. Disconnect heater hoses. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
  4. Remove front engine mount. Secure lifting chain or cable to engine hangers. Raise engine slowly, while raising transaxle with a floor jack. Move engine horizontally away from transaxle and separate. Remove engine.
