Cylinder Head: Installation

  1. Clean mating surfaces of cylinder head and crankcase so that they are free of oil, grease and dirt. Tighten rocker arm shaft in a progressive sequence, from center to outside.
    NOTE: Apply head gasket sealant Three Bond 1201 or Dow Corning 92-024 to both sides of new cylinder head gasket. Install gasket quickly after applying sealant.
  2. Before installing cylinder heads, coat all nut and bolt threads with oil. Tighten in sequence, in 3 successive steps. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  3. After tightening all cylinder head nuts and bolts, retighten center nut (No. 1) to ensure it is correctly torqued. Once engine is installed in vehicle, start engine and run for 10 minutes. Recheck cylinder head bolt torque.
