Piston & Rod Assembly: Inspection

  1. Replace connecting rod if large or small end thrust surface is damaged. Using a connecting rod aligner, check for bend or twist. Limit of bend or twist per 3.94" (100 mm) is .004" (.10 mm).
  2. Install connecting rod with bearing onto crankshaft. Tighten rod nuts to specification and measure side clearance. See CRANKSHAFT MAIN & CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS specifications.
  3. Inspect small end bushing of connecting rod for excessive wear or foreign material saturation. Ensure cylinder wall oiling holes are clear from obstruction.
