1.6L 4-CYL - VIN [2] & 1.8L 4-CYL - VINS [4,5] - OHV: Overhaul: Crankcase: Reassembly

1. Lubricate all friction surfaces with engine oil prior to reassembly. Install lifters and use Lifter Clips (899804100) to hold lifters in place. Install bearings in crankcase half having No. 2 and No. 4 cylinders. Install crankshaft and camshaft so punch mark on camshaft gear is visible through chamfered hole in crankshaft gear. See Fig 2 .
2. Clean mating surfaces of crankcase and apply liquid gasket. Install water jacket "O" ring and back-up ring into crankcase half having No. 2 and No. 4 cylinders.
3. To complete reassembly, reverse disassembly procedure. Tighten crankcase halves and cylinder heads in sequence. See Figure and Fig 1 . Measure crankshaft end play and camshaft back lash.
