1.6L 4-CYL - VIN [2] & 1.8L 4-CYL - VINS [4,5] - OHV: Overhaul: Crankcase: Inspection

  1. Before reassembly, measure cylinder bore. Refer to chart under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS  for tolerances. Check for loose or bent stud bolts. Use Stud Bolt Wrench (898878600) when replacing stud bolts. Coat threads with a torque-holding sealant (Loctite 270) and tighten to 25-33 ft. lbs. (24-44 N.m).
  2. Check stud bolt length. On 1.6L engines, length should measure 3.56-3.64" (90.5-92.5 mm), and on 1.8L engines it should measure 3.60-3.68" (91.5-93.5 mm). Check crankcase-to-cylinder head mating surface for warpage, and correct by grinding if necessary. Warping limit is .002" (.05 mm).
