Knuckle Housing & Wheel Bearing: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel assembly. Remove cotter pin and loosen hub nut. Pull out parking brake cable outer clip from caliper. Remove parking brake cable end from caliper lever.
  2. Remove caliper assembly and hang out of way. Disconnect tie rod form knuckle housing. Disconnect strut from knuckle housing. Use a screwdriver to spread knuckle housing (if necessary). DO NOT spread housing slit more than .16" (4 mm). Be careful not to damage the CV joint boot.
  3. Remove castle nut, washer spring and center piece on axle shaft. Remove hub and disc assembly. Remove the disc cover. Disconnect ball joint from knuckle housing.
  4. Use puller to separate knuckle housing from drive shaft. Remove knuckle housing from vehicle. Remove bearings and oil seals from knuckle housing.
