Removal (Turbocharged Engines)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove air duct to turbocharger. Remove air intake duct. Drain coolant and remove upper radiator hose. Remove turbocharger cooling hose and turbocharger. Remove front exhaust pipe from cylinder head. Remove distributor and spark plug wires. See Fig 1 .
  2. Loosen water pump pulley mounting bolts until finger tight. Remove alternator (except A/C models). Remove PCV hose. Remove clips, ground terminal and knock sensor terminal. Remove wiring harness. Disconnect oil pressure switch. Disconnect remaining electrical wiring and vacuum lines as necessary. Label all wiring and vacuum lines.
  3. Disconnect air bleed hose from intake manifold. Remove EGR pipe clamps. Remove EGR pipe cover and pipe. Remove bolts securing intake manifold-to-engine and remove intake manifold. See Fig 1 .
