Removal (Non-Turbocharged Engines)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove air cleaner assembly. Remove distributor and spark plug wires. Drain coolant and disconnect all hoses from manifold. Disconnect throttle cable, vacuum lines, fuel lines and electrical connections to manifold and label. See Fig 1 .
  2. Before slackening alternator belt, loosen water pump pulley mounting nuts until finger tight. Remove alternator (except A/C models). Remove silencers and silencer hoses. Remove air suction valve and pipe together with brackets.
  3. Loosen both ends of EGR pipe and remove from rear of manifold. Remove PCV hose and blow-by hose. Remove air bleed hose from thermostat case. Disconnect each harness. Remove 6 manifold-to-cylinder head bolts and remove manifold. See Fig 1 .
