Removal (4WD Models - Drum & Disc Brakes)

  1. Apply parking brake. Remove cotter pin and loosen castle nut. Disconnect shock absorber from inner arm. Loosen lock bolts of crossmember outer bushing.
  2. Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheels. Drive out spring pins of inner and outer CV joints and remove outer CV joint from spindle by lowering trailing arm. Remove inner CV joint from differential spindle. Remove castle nut and brake drum.
  3. Disconnect brake hoses at inner arm bracket and plug brake lines. Remove brake assembly from trailing arm. Remove bolt holding inner arm bushing mount to crossmember. Remove 3 bolts that connect the inner arm and outer arm, and remove the inner arm.
  4. Put the inner arm in a vise, and straighten the staked portion of ring nut. Using Ring Nut Socket (925550000), remove ring nut. Remove spindle by lightly tapping inward with a plastic hammer. Remove outer oil seal from inner arm housing.
  5. Using a press, remove the bearings and races from the housing and spindle.
