Valve Lifters: Notes

Solid Lifters

On vehicles with solid lifters, remove lifters from crankcase. Inspect lifter for wear or clogged oil hole. Inspect lifter bore in crankcase for damage. Measure outer diameter of lifter and bore diameter to determine clearance. Standard clearance is .0012-.0028" (.030-.07 mm). Replace lifter if lifter-to-bore clearance exceeds .004" (.10 mm).
