Hydraulic Lifters
- Check for wear and damage to lifter and replace if necessary. Measure lifter bore diameter, and measure diameter of lifter to determine clearance. Replace lifter if necessary.
- Forcibly insert push rod into lifter to check for seat movement in valve body. If it does move, disassemble lifter to determine cause. DO NOT mix up plungers, push rod seats or valve bodies. Use a wire to remove plunger.
- Inspect lifter bore in crankcase for damage. Measure outer diameter of lifter and bore diameter to determine clearance. Standard clearance is .0012-.0028" (.030-.07 mm). Replace lifter if lifter-to-bore clearance exceeds .004" (.10 mm).
