Main & Connecting Rod Bearings
- With main bearing inserts in case, set crankshaft into case. Using a feeler gauge, measure thrust clearance at center bearing. Standard clearance is .0004-.0037" (.010-.095 mm). Limit is .0118" (.3 mm). If limit is exceeded, replace center main bearing.
- Wipe off oil and dust on surfaces to be measured. Install bearings in crankcase and set crankshaft into crankcase. Tighten main case bolts to specifications and measure oil clearance of crankshaft bearings using Plastigage method.
- Wipe oil and dust on surfaces to be measured. Install bearings on connecting rod and cap. Tighten rod nuts to specifications. Measure oil clearance of connecting rod bearings using Plastigage method.
- Main bearing inserts are available in standard, .001" (.03 mm), .002" (.05 mm) and .010" (.25 mm) undersize. Connecting rod bearing inserts are available in standard, .002" (.05mm) and .010" (.25mm) undersize.
NOTE:
Position each connecting rod with the marked side (logo) facing forward. Make sure connecting rods are assembled correctly by checking their matching number. See Fig 1
.
NOTE:
Connecting rod mark should face front of engine.
