Engine Identification

NOTE: For engine repair procedures not covered in this article, see ENGINE OVERHAUL PROCEDURES - GENERAL INFORMATION article in the GENERAL INFORMATION section.

On all models, engine can be identified by 6th character of Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Turbos are indicated by the 7th character - a "5" indicates GL-10 turbo, a "6" indicates an RX turbo, and a "7" indicates a GL turbo.

The VIN is stamped on a metal plate located on front right side of engine compartment. Identification number of engine is stamped on a machined pad on right front of engine cylinder block.

2WD 4
4WD Without Air Suspension 5
4WD With Air Suspension 7
(1) If the 7th character is a "5", engine is a GL-10 turbo; if a "6", engine is an RX turbo; if a "7", engine is a GL turbo.
