Removal & Installation: Crankcase: Disassembly

  1. Remove intake and exhaust manifolds and cylinder heads. Remove water pump, oil pump and oil pan. Remove crankcase 14 mm Allen head plugs. Remove pressure plate, clutch, flywheel and clutch housing. Remove oil filler tube. Rotate crankshaft and align holes in camshaft to straighten locking tabs and remove bolts.
  2. Position pistons at Bottom Dead Center and remove circlip with long-nosed pliers. Access to No. 1 and No. 2 piston pins is through front crankcase plug holes. Access to No. 3 and No. 4 piston pins is through rear crankcase holes.
  3. Rotate crankshaft 180° to place piston at Top Dead Center. Looking through access holes, rotate crankshaft an additional 180° to position connecting rods at Bottom Dead Center. Install piston pins into connecting rod bores. Carefully rotate engine again to remove pistons from cylinders.
  4. To prevent upper crankcase lifters from falling out, use Valve Lifter Clips (899804100). Separate crankcase halves by removing nuts and bolts.
