Function requirements, general
- No overvoltage or undervoltage
- The switch for the respective interior illumination is in the "Automatic interior lights control" position (center position)
From MY 2015 to MY 2016, a front interior lamp with only one reading lamp is installed on the passenger side in model 453.3/4, left-hand drive vehicles, with code ICLA (passion), code ICVA (prime), code ICTA (proxy) or code P88 (Edition 1). In model 453.0, model 453.3/4, right-hand drive vehicles, and model 453.3/4, left-hand drive vehicles, as of MY 2016, an interior lamp with two reading lamps is always installed with the aforementioned codes.
Automatic interior lights control in general
The automatic interior lights control provides the illumination for the vehicle interior. The master control unit for this is the center SAM control unit.
Automatic interior lights control functions
The following functions are possible:
- Automatic switching on/off when unlocking/locking the vehicle with the transmitter key
- Automatic switching on/off when opening/closing a door
- Automatic switching on/off when opening/closing the liftgate
If the ambiance illumination on vehicles with code 877 (Ambiance illumination) is activated via the instrument cluster (A1), it switches on automatically when the vehicle is unlocked via the central locking or a door is opened. The "Ambiance illumination" function is described in the separate document "Symbol and ambiance illumination, function".
Function sequence for automatic switching on/off when unlocking/locking with the transmitter key
If the center SAM control unit receives the "Unlock central locking" request from the transmitter key it actuates the front interior lamp, the rear lamp (model 453.0) and the load compartment lamp (with code ICLA (passion), code ICVA (prime), code ICTA (proxy), code P88 (Edition 1) or code P71 (BRABUS sport package)) in the dimmed setting. If the vehicle was unlocked and the doors remain closed, all lamps are shut off in the dimmed setting by the center SAM control unit after a time of t = 20 s has elapsed.
If the vehicle is locked or the engine (model 453.091/391/491) or the drivetrain (model 453.091/391/491 only) is started, the center SAM control unit terminates the respective lamp actuation (dimmed setting) immediately. "Engine running" status is received by the center SAM control unit from the ME-SFI [ME] control unit via the interior CAN (except model 453.091/391/491). The center SAM control unit receives the "Drivetrain operational" status via the interior CAN from the electric drive control unit (model 453.091/391/491 only).
Function sequence for automatic switching on/off when opening/closing a door
The opening of a vehicle door is detected by the central locking microswitch of the respective door. The center SAM control unit evaluates the signals of the central locking microswitches and then actuates the front interior lamp, the rear compartment lamp (model 453.0) and the load compartment lamp (with code ICLA (passion), code ICVA (prime), code ICTA (proxy), code P88 (Edition 1)) or code ICBA (BRABUS) in the dimmed setting.
If the open vehicle door is not closed again, the center SAM control unit stops actuation of the interior illumination after a time of t = 4 min has elapsed.
The interior illumination is automatically switched off after closing the open door after a period of t = 20 s.
Function sequence for automatically switching on/off when opening/closing the liftgate
When opening the liftgate, the center SAM control unit actuates the load compartment lamp (with code ICLA (passion), code ICVA (prime), code ICTA (proxy), code P88 (Edition 1) or code ICBA (BRABUS)) as well as the front interior lamp and the rear compartment lamp (model 453.0).
To preserve the on-board electrical system battery, all lamps that are switched on are switched off after t = 3 min when the liftgate is opened and the ignition is switched off.
After the liftgate is closed, automatic shutoff of the interior lights takes place after a time of t = 20 s has elapsed (dimmed setting).
