Location
The smart radio multimedia navigator is installed in the center of the instrument panel.
Tasks
The following abbreviations are used in the text: Secure Digital (SD), Global System Mobile (GSM), Global Positioning System (GPS), Real Time Traffic Data (RTTD), Traffic Message Channel (TMC) and Universal Serial Bus (USB).
The smart radio multimedia navigator has the following tasks:
- Central operating and display unit for the entertainment and communications systems integrated in the vehicle
- Evaluating and forwarding control signals
- Reading in of input signals as well as actuation of output media and system components

The smart radio multimedia navigator provides the user with a structured and standardized user interface for the following system components:
- Multimedia (e.g. "Radio")
- Navigation
- Telephone (with telephone book function)
- Vehicle (e.g. App manager)
- Services
- System (System settings, e.g. display "Brightness" and "Contrast")
The user interface is shown on the touchscreen display of the smart radio multimedia navigator.
Evaluating and forwarding control signals
The user interface can be operated with the following control elements:
- Multimedia operating unit for smart radio multimedia navigator
- Touchscreen of smart radio multimedia navigator
Reading in of input signals as well as actuation of output media and system components
The smart radio multimedia navigator sends and receives signals via the following connections:
- Telematics CAN (CAN A)
- Direct line
Telematics CAN (CAN A)
The smart radio multimedia navigator is a subscriber of the telematics CAN:
- Using the telematics CAN, the smart radio multimedia navigator receives, e.g. the control signals of the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) via the audio gateway control unit (N93/1) or the smart radio multimedia navigator touchscreen.
- The smart radio multimedia navigator sends, e.g. control signals to the radio over the telematics CAN.
Direct line
The smart radio multimedia navigator has the following direct connections:
- Circuit "30g"
- Circuit "31"
- Hands-free system microphone (B25/12)
- Real-time traffic data over a USB connection from the telematics services communications module (N112/2)
- GPS antenna (A223)
- Wake-up signal
- Speed signal from the Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4)
- Reversing camera (B84/3) (with code 218 (Reversing camera)) (except vehicles as of model year 2018 with code 494 USA version)
- Data (SD card navigation) over a USB connection from the multimedia connection unit (A90/5)
- Data via screened lines (e.g. voice control) to the radio (A2)
