The following operation steps describe a partial repair for the side wall paneling; depending on the scope of damage, it is necessary to replace the entire side wall paneling.
- Mark separating points on side wall paneling (1) and cut (areas A).
Do not cut too deeply.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
- Grind off crimped bead along wheel arch side wall paneling (1) (area E).
- Remove remaining pieces of flanged folded edge of sidewall paneling (1).
- Expose spot welds on side wall paneling (1) and cut out (areas B, B 1 , C and D).
- Heat side wall paneling (1) in crosshatched areas with hot air gun (areas E and F).
Crosshatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Remove side wall paneling (1).
- Remove remaining adhesive (areas E and F).
- Sand down mating surfaces to bare metal in cross- hatched areas.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas G and F).
Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
